Two weeks from now, TheEarlCarlson will no longer be a member of the Deep Fried team. Along with him escapes the opportunity for further photobombings. A sad time, indeed.
unlined paintings and a matchless fire
curious suit sipping and kicking a tire
i want wind to sweep and carry that car away
i want his jeans to squeeze the life from his sway
high tide for the brains of the snowbirds and stone busts
high time for the yes men and paranoids to combust
fail if you must, you will never come back
fail if you must, you will never come back
inkscape and quillhills of a stoke river
leads versemen and dipboys to scatter their clothes
if we don’t get to her tonight
she will end up in hell for sure
monger monger whiffs and tails
sail tomorrow for peace and trails
lantern moon and radio whore
chair of wicker and strings of lore
high tide for washing the black sand
high tales and low frequencies
fail if you must, you will never turn black
fail if you must, you will always come back
high tide of god and his penchant
high trees and moths of the sea
fail if you trust that you’ll tend to the back
fail if you must, she can grow what she lacks
Three months (approximately) in.
Look! Someone left a lone pretzel on my car, right above the driver’s door. How special.
Is my car dirty? Verily.
So, the colder months had warped my apartment’s front door in a direction that tended to hinder its practical function. Here in the warmer months, it has merely decided to change direction. Different method, same problematic outcome. And it is these warmer months which has also provoked the startling revelation that making the now traditionalized weekend trek to the park (0.6 mi) in my usual attire will add minor health complications. Short and sweet, I’ve gotta buy a pair of shorts, mang. It’s frickin’ humid.
But I’m here. I’ve made it, survived, etc. Another two days of exploration, and the city hasn’t eaten me alive yet.
This was taken a block from Magazine Street. I really wanted to steal it. And interestingly enough, it is no longer there.
Today is Free Comic Book Day across the nation. Specially released titles were to be made available at participating shops (which include the two that are right next to me), but I ignored all that and bought volume one of Mister X from store #2, instead. The girl minding the register ended up inviting me to a keg party that’s actually starting right…about…now. The party is at the shop itself, and I’m not the most fluent kiddo in the world when it comes to discussing comics. I’d rather get nerdy with people about other things. She also offered me a temporary tattoo that promoted the “holiday,” but the male clerk overheard and jumped in with, “Don’t do it, man! It burrrrrrnnnnns!” He yanked apart the top two buttons of his shirt to reveal the tattoo centered on his chest. Brilliant.
Wait. “Keg party at the comics shop.” Hah.
Here’s the stance of triumph the kid in plaid assumes after an awesome jump from the steps with his skateboard. I was too slow to capture the jump, but here, have a poorly composed shot of the aftermath anyway. (taken under the interstate)
I’m halfway through Mister X. German Expressionism in comic form? Sure, I’ll take it.
It’s official because I say so. Why argue with that? Here’s two great finds regarding typography:
Use of Effective Typography in Logo Design
Yet another one of those lists of “inspiring logo designs,” but it was tough to find one I didn’t like out of this blog post.
Measuring Type
Funny, yet informative, set of pages where the amount of pen ink used in relation to the typeface written in is measured and compared. I’m happy about the winner.
Took a trip to Donaldsonville today for kicks and giggles. Photos ensued.

…is online. It might need to be reworked, but one is there for now, at least.
In other news, this is awesome: Another 23 Signs You’re Becoming A Design Geek
Hey, kids. Pretty exciting times, right? This is, of course, the opening post to my new portfolio site. Hopefully, I’ll find the time to update this rather often with site news, stuff that’s interesting to me, and random ramblings. In related news, I’m kinda bummed that I had to put a hyphen in the site’s address (what I was originally going for was already registered), but it’s not a big deal. For some reason I felt like I had to let that out. Hmm.
Important Note: The portfolio is online, but my resume is not. A few revisions are required, and I’ll then post the updated version as soon as possible to the About page.
